Memorial Day Marks the Time for a Package Tracking ReviewWe hope you returned to the office yesterday well rested and refreshed from the long weekend. Memorial Day, though not the official first day of the season, marked the beginning of summer for many. It signified that it’s time to open the pool, pull out the grill, and spend your free time soaking up the sun. But this transition has us thinking about more than just beaches and barbeques. The passing of a season provides the chance to review what worked in the previous season, what didn’t work, and what we have to look forward to in the upcoming months. What’s more, this long weekend gave us the perfect opportunities to relax and unwind so that we are able to return to work ready to evaluate our mailrooms from a fresh perspective.

As you ease back into work, use this week to reflect on the past season and prepare your team to capitalize on our package tracking system in the new one just around the corner. Below we’ve outlined our three step process for a seasonal mailroom review.

List What You’ve Done Well

Has your team become more familiar with the package management software in the past season and improved their processing speed? Be sure to mark this off as a milestone and congratulate your staff on a job well done. Notify your package recipients of this type of achievement as well; though they are benefiting from it by receiving their package notifications in record time, they are not always aware of what is going on behind the scenes.

Note What Can Be Improved

Have some team members who are not fully comfortable with our package tracking system? Take this opportunity to give them some constructive criticism and advice on using the package management software. Utilize our training videos or give us a call. We strive to support our clients at every step of the way and are more than happy to provide additional training on our package tracking system if necessary.

If you are still hand logging packages, now is an excellent time to implement package management software. You will be able to begin logging packages four to ten times faster than by hand and you’ll find that, with our automatic package notifications, your packages will be picked up faster too.

Look to the Calendar

This is an important time to review the holidays and events for the upcoming months and prepare for them. Will you be closed on the Fourth of July or have any other special closings this summer? If so, not only should you notify your package recipients well in advance so they may plan accordingly, you should also prepare your staff to deal with the influx of packages that you will receive right before and after your off days.

Do not ignore holidays simply because they do not affect your work schedule. For example, though Father’s Day falls on a Sunday, your mailroom staff will need to process and increased number of packages in the week leading up to it for those who have sent their gifts early or have ordered them on the web.

We hope that you enjoyed your holiday weekend, but we also hope that you use this as an opportunity to assess your progress so far and look forward to the future.
