When I was a young boy I joined the Cub Scouts, and then later the Boy Scouts. I know that I am digressing from our usual topic of package tracking software, but please bear with me. One of the perks of being in scouting, at the time, was a subscription to a magazine called “Boy’s Life.” While I am sure that that magazine was full of very useful articles on all kinds of things, the main reason I opened it up every week was to look at the advertisements in the back. The last five or so pages of Boy’s Life always contained ads for the kinds of things that any eleven-year-old boy would dream about. Some of my favorite ads included “Build your own hovercraft at home,” “hypnotize your friends with the Amazing Hypno-Disk” and, “see-through clothing with x-ray glasses.” Since pretty much all of these products cost less than five dollars, they were temptations that this boy at least could not resist.
Yes, I did order several of these products and I waited the torturously long “6 to 8 weeks” for delivery. I am sure that this was the first experience I had that showed me how precious a package can be. Pretty much everyone has a story about ordering something very special to them and waiting for it to be delivered. This experience is so universal it became its own song called “Wells Fargo Wagon” in the musical The Music Man. But perhaps there is no better time to appreciate the emotional connection that we have to inbound parcels then on Valentine’s Day.
Here at EZTrackIt, our package logging system tracks the number of parcels our system processes every day and this gives us a lot of insights into the industry, as well as into the human condition. One of my favorite bits of knowledge that we have gleaned is that there is a 25% increase in packages received on Valentine’s Day. This statistic is across many industries in many different types of package receiving situations. It seems pretty logical to deduce that these thousands upon thousands of additional packages are from loved ones to the objects of their affection.
It’s easy to get jaded if you have to log a hundred packages a day. It is simpler to not bother to process a package correctly. If no one is looking there is that temptation to slide a FedEx tube down a flight of stairs to save you a few steps in your journey. But, as you see the increased number of packages that arrive around Valentine’s Day at your facility, let this remind you of how precious those packages are to the people who are destined to receive them. It is important to treat those packages as what they are, precious cargo. Package tracking softwarenot only makes this process easy , it helps you get these special packages logged and delivered to their recipients in record time.
Take the time to implement a package logging system to log packages into your facility correctly. It is not glamorous work, but it is work that is worth doing properly. By delivering these meaningful packages, you are helping people keep their love alive.
